Shōga and Case Notes
Shōga jumped onto my lap while I was writing case notes the other day. He was completely sure his input was very important and tried his best to help by sitting right next to the keyboard, purring like he was doing serious work. He’ll have to wait his turn for the collective braincell though. Ginger cats only have one to share, and it clearly wasn’t his turn. Mental Wellbeing
As Mental Health Month comes to an end, it’s a good time to remember that wellbeing matters every day. Take a moment this week to check in with yourself and others, as small acts of care, rest, and connection make a big difference. Everyday wellbeing is about the little things that help us feel grounded and supported. Noticing how we feel, reaching out when we need to, and giving ourselves permission to rest all contribute to a stronger sense of balance and connection. Awaren

The Prisons We Build
“The prisons we build run deep. Currents pierce the heart like thunder strikes. Blinded by pain, the naked truth is hard to bear. Perceptions distort - you cannot hear what you refuse to see. Blinded by ego. Wipe the tears, and let go. 🖤“ This participant gave me consent to share #expressivearttherapy #expressiveart #expressiveartstherapy #expressthroughart #arthelps

Interoception and Regulation
This book is a warm, practical and insightful guide to one of the most overlooked aspects of wellbeing, interoception, our ability to notice and understand the signals coming from inside our body. Goodall and Brownlow explain why this skill matters for self regulation and connection with others, and provide step by step, adaptable strategies for teaching it. The writing is clear and accessible, grounded in both lived experience and research, and filled with activities that wo

Natural Fusion
A jade plant is woven within a vertebral column. A jade plant’s stems stiffen and harden into trunks as they grow, mirroring the fusion of vertebrae in ankylosing spondylitis. This piece was inspired by @unstrungstudios and reflects how painful the process of fusion can be, yet how it also exists in nature. Intersex Awareness Day
Intersex Awareness Day is on October 26th! Intersex Awareness Day is a day to honour intersex people, raise awareness, and advocate for bodily autonomy and rights. Intersex people are born with natural variations in sex characteristics that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female. This day reminds us to challenge assumptions, respect identities, and support the intersex community in living freely and safely. Let’s celebrate diversity beyond the binary and commit to cr

Creative Energy
“I’ve been working hard on a project at art therapy over the course of a couple of months, and that narrow focus each fortnight has shown me how much more creative energy I have left over. I’ve been trying to take more personal responsibility for creative time at home and it doesn’t matter to me much if the art is ‘good’ so long as it’s fun to do. So here’s some Creative Energy for the day!” This participant gave me permission to share #creativeenergy #creativehealing #healin

Handmade Picky Pads
I stopped sucking my thumb at 10 and pretty much went straight into skin picking. First it was psoriasis, then acne, then cuticles. Now I make my own picky pads! Moulds found here: https://amzn.to/45F6ug6 Silicone found here: https://amzn.to/4kX42Gt It might sound expensive, but 10 picky pads only use about a third of the silicone. You could also use an ice cube tray or something similar instead of moulds to save money. Once I’ve picked everything out of the silicone, I recyc

Ace Week 2025
It’s Ace Week, October 19 to 25, 2025! Asexuality exists. Ace people are valid and whole. This week we challenge myths, stereotypes, and erasure. There is no one way to be human, to connect, or to belong. We celebrate the diversity of ace experiences and the strength of our community. Let us uplift ace voices, demand recognition, and

Your Brain on Art
Your Brain on Art by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross explores the powerful connection between creativity and wellbeing. The book blends neuroscience, psychology and personal reflection to show how the arts are not just an optional extra but a fundamental part of being human. It explains how music, movement, storytelling and visual expression can reduce stress, strengthen relationships and even support physical healing. The writing is accessible and engaging, making complex scienc

“The process of creating this artwork was long but therapeutic. I drew out what I wanted to do, and then I followed a technique I saw on Instagram. I mixed PVA, water, paint, and paper towels, using tweezers to place them on the board. I started with the black before moving on to the colours” This participant gave me consent to share #homersimpson #thesimpsons #thesimpsonsmeme #thesimpsonsart #simpsonsart #homersimpsonart

International Pronouns Day 2025
International Pronouns Day in 2025 is on October 15th! Pronouns are the words we use to talk about a person when we are not using their name. These might be they/them, she/her, he/him, or other pronouns, including neopronouns like zie/zir or xe/xem. Some people use one set of pronouns (e.g., Rae’s pronouns are they/them), and some use more than one (e.g., Alex’s pronouns are zie/zir and they/them interchangeably). It is important to respect everyone’s pronouns. When it comes

Coming Out Day 2025
Coming Out Day 2025 is on October 11. Coming out isn’t the only story. Some of us prefer to be called in. Calling in can mean inviting others into our truth on our own terms, in our own time. It is about safety, trust, and connection. It can also mean when others make space for us, affirm us, and invite us to belong. It shifts the focus from disclosure to community. Instead of a person having to announce who they are, calling in reminds us that we can also be welcomed and rec

The Evidence Based EFT Manual
I have just finished reading The Evidence Based EFT Manual by Peta Stapleton and Naomi Janzen. It’s a clear and structured guide to using Clinical EFT in therapeutic settings. There is no fluff or energy talk, just well researched technique grounded in solid evidence and clinical practice. The manual walks through the foundational steps in detail and then expands into therapeutic applications. It covers trauma work, adaptations for children, and maintaining fidelity to the pr
