The Rainbow Brain by Sandhya Menon is an engaging read for kids, bursting with vibrant storytelling that dives into the wonders of the human mind. The colourful narrative makes it a fun choice for young readers keen to explore how their brains work. Menon’s knack for blending science with fun keeps the pages turning, making complex ideas accessible and exciting for primary school-aged kids.

As a vegan, I found the reference to mint and lamb a bit hard to stomach, as it clashed with my values and momentarily pulled me out of the story. While it’s a minor detail in the grand scheme, it’s worth noting for plant-based families who might feel similarly. That said, the book’s overall charm and educational value still shine through, and it didn’t detract from the joy of the read.

Overall, The Rainbow Brain is a beautiful addition to any kid’s bookshelf, sparking curiosity and wonder about the brain’s magic. It’s perfect for parents, teachers and practitioners looking to inspire and affirm young minds with a blend of fun and learning. Despite the small hiccup for me, I’d recommend it for its lively approach and ability to captivate young readers!
