I enjoyed how Graziadei balanced the competitive hockey setting with quieter, character driven moments. Mickey’s anxiety and self doubt felt authentic, and the relationship with Jaysen developed naturally while allowing space for vulnerability, connection and the complexities of growing into yourself.

Overall, Icebreaker is a thoughtful novel that uses hockey as the backdrop for a deeper exploration of mental health, identity and relationships. Its believable characters and emotional honesty make it an engaging read that highlights the challenges of being seen, understood and accepted.
