As a Creative and Experiential Therapist, I found this book to be a valuable and inspiring exploration of person-centred approaches to creative practice. I particularly appreciated the way the author brings theory into relationship with lived experience, offering thoughtful reflections alongside practical examples of how these ideas can unfold within therapeutic and learning environments.
One of the aspects I valued most was the inclusion of creative exercises and the way the author shared examples of these being explored with her students. Seeing the students’ creative processes unfold provided a rich insight into experiential learning and the development of a person-centred way of working. The exercises are offered as invitations for exploration, reflection, and discovery, rather than as fixed techniques, honouring each person’s unique relationship with creativity and meaning-making.
I also appreciated the strong grounding in person-centred theory and the way the author brings these principles into creative practice. The book highlights the importance of empathy, authenticity, presence, trust, and the therapeutic relationship, while demonstrating how creativity can support personal growth and deeper self-understanding. The integration of theory and practice creates a thoughtful resource for those wanting to understand the foundations of a relational creative approach.
This is a book I will return to for inspiration in my own practice, particularly when developing experiential work, reflecting in supervision, or reconnecting with the foundations of person-centred creative therapy. It offers a meaningful balance of practical application and theoretical depth, making it a valuable resource for Creative and Experiential Therapists, students, and practitioners interested in exploring the transformative potential of creativity within therapeutic relationships.
