Happy Pride Month

Pride Month began in honour of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. It was an act of resistance led by trans women of colour like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera against police brutality and state-sanctioned violence. It wasn’t a parade. It was a riot. A rebellion born from survival.

Today, the fight continues. Trans rights are under attack. Queer youth are being silenced. Marginalised communities within the LGBTQIA+ umbrella still face systemic harm, even as others gain visibility.

We honour Pride by remembering its roots in radical resistance—not rainbow capitalism. Pride isn’t just a party; it’s a call to action. We march because we have to. We speak out because silence has never protected us. We celebrate our joy because it’s revolutionary to do so.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
