October Awareness Raising

October is a big month for awareness, with several opportunities to recognise and celebrate the different ways people learn, communicate, process sensory information and experience mental health.

Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, Mental Health Month, AAC Awareness Month and Sensory Processing Awareness Month each highlight different experiences and the importance of understanding, accessibility and inclusion.

World Mental Health Day on 10 October and International Stuttering Awareness Day on 22 October also invite us to reflect on how we can create more supportive spaces for one another.

Everyone deserves to have their experiences respected, their communication understood and their needs taken seriously.

By listening, learning and embracing differences, we can help create a world where people feel accepted for who they are.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
