Happy Pride Month

Writer's picture: Rae Sabine Rae Sabine

Pride Month holds great significance for many reasons. It provides us with a chance to contemplate the invaluable contributions made by transgender women of colour towards the liberation of LGBTQIA+ individuals. The first Pride was a riot and can be traced back to Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. They are often acknowledged for initiating the uprising by throwing one of the first bricks at The Stonewall Riots.

“We deserve to experience love fully, equally, without shame and without compromise” - Elliot Page

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
