Gender is Really Strange is a beautifully crafted and accessible exploration of gender, blending thoughtful insights with stunning illustrations. It offers an engaging entry point into complex ideas without oversimplifying, making space for both personal reflection and broader social context.

I was especially pleased to see references to authors I admire, like Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí (The Invention of Women) and Nick Walker (Neuroqueer Heresies). Their inclusion reflects the book’s grounding in decolonial, neurodivergent, and critically reflective perspectives, which adds depth and richness to the narrative.

The reflective questions at the end are a gentle but powerful touch, encouraging readers to explore their own relationship with gender. The book invites a sense of connection both to oneself and to broader conversations about identity, experience, and belonging. It’s a small book with big ideas and a lot of heart.
