Fat Liberation Month is August.

Fat liberation is about so much more than body size.

It challenges the structures that determine whose bodies are considered worthy of dignity, respect, healthcare, safety, and opportunity.

Fatphobia doesn’t exist in isolation. It is deeply intertwined with ableism, racism, patriarchy, transphobia, queerphobia, sexism, classism, and other forms of systemic oppression.

That’s why fat liberation is inseparable from disability justice, racial justice, trans liberation, queer liberation, gender justice, and human rights.

The fight for fat liberation isn’t about celebrating one type of body over another.

It’s about dismantling the systems that police, shame, exclude, and discriminate against people because of their bodies.

When we work towards a world where every body is treated with dignity, autonomy, and respect, we all become freer.

This Fat Liberation Month, let’s move beyond body positivity and towards collective liberation because all bodies deserve freedom.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
