Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month.

This year’s theme, “The World Works Better With Us,” celebrates the value disabled people bring to our communities, workplaces, relationships, and creative spaces.

This theme challenges the idea that disability is something to overcome and instead recognises disability as an important part of human diversity.

We know that different ways of thinking, sensing, moving, communicating, and being in the world matter.

This month is a reminder that when disabled people are included, listened to, and valued, everyone benefits.

Pride in our identities.

Resistance to ableism.

The world works better with us.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
