Non-Binary Awareness Week is here.

It is a time to shine a light on the lives and experiences of people with marginalised genders outside of the Anglocentric gender binary.

Non-Binary people are often misunderstood, misgendered or overlooked.

This week is an opportunity to challenge those assumptions and centre voices that are too often ignored.

It is about creating space for all gender expressions, respecting pronouns and recognising that gender is not limited to just male or female.

Everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued for who they truly are.

It is also important to recognise that the experiences of Non-Binary people are shaped by many intersecting identities including race, disability, culture, class and sexuality.

Justice and inclusion must reflect this complexity.

By learning more and listening to Non-Binary voices, we can help build a more inclusive world where gender diversity is recognised and celebrated, not erased.

Let us use this week to reflect on how we can better support Non-Binary people, not just now, but every day.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
