Necessity of Fragility is an immersive exhibition by Dave Thomson (Lost Few). Combining sound, light, projection and scent it creates a space for reflection and healing. The project was born out of the loss of the artist’s sister to suicide and moves through three distinct stages of grief. Beginning with an initial celebration of life, it moves to anger and turmoil and finally finding strength in transformation.

At its centre are delicate floral sculptures that speak to memory, transience, and renewal. Embodying grief, they remind us of the impermanence and fragility of life while serving as a visual reminder of the way we memorialize those who have passed on. A body of water invites self-reflection, exploring the loss of oneself to grief and how pain has the ability to carve us anew. While soundscapes, shifting light, and fleeting scents mirror the ways we carry memory and trauma; fragile, and deeply felt.

Necessity of Fragility is about loss, but also renewal. It asks us to slow down, sit with vulnerability, and find connection through shared experience.
