Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. It is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience and rich cultures of First Nations children.

Here are some ways to acknowledge this important day:

• Learn about local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures

• Support Indigenous-led organisations focused on children and families

• Attend or share events that celebrate Indigenous children and communities

• Listen to First Nations stories and perspectives with care and respect

• Reflect on how you can help create inclusive and culturally safe spaces

This day reminds us how vital family, community and culture are to a child’s wellbeing and identity.

Let us honour their stories, listen deeply and work toward a future where every child is safe, seen and supported, proud in their heritage and strong in who they are.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
