26 May marks National Sorry Day.

It is a time to reflect on the ongoing impact of the Stolen Generations and the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Saying “sorry” is not about the past alone. It’s about recognising harm, listening with humility, and taking responsibility for the future we are shaping together.

Awareness is where change begins, but it cannot end there. Closing the gap requires sustained action, accountability, and a commitment to justice, self-determination, and culturally safe systems.

We remember. We listen. We learn. And we continue the work, including supporting ongoing initiatives such as Pay the Rent: https://paytherent.net.au

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
