July 14th is International Non-Binary People’s Day!

To all my non-binary kin, your truth is not too complicated. It is beautifully complex or simply true, however you experience it.

Too often in Western culture, complex and complicated are confused. Complexity means being multifaceted and rich, while complicated implies something is difficult.

Your identity is not a phase or a debate. You are whole, valid and enough exactly as you are, in all your richness or simplicity.

Being non-binary means living outside the simple binary boxes, whether that looks like gender expansiveness or gender neutrality.

Your existence broadens what gender can be, showing us all the strength in diverse experiences of identity.

Today and every day, I honour your depth, your presence, and your power.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
