DISABILITY PRIDE FLAG

Ann Magill created the original disability pride flag in 2019, and in 2021, she redesigned it to be more accessible by getting rid of the zigzagged design. This change was necessary as the original design exacerbated symptoms for individuals with visually triggered disabilities such as seizure and migraine. Magill’s updated design now includes more muted colours and this straight diagonal band from the top left to the bottom right corner.

GREEN - SENSORY DISABILITIES

BLUE - EMOTIONAL & PSYCHIATRIC DISABILITIES

WHITE - INVISIBLE & UNDIAGNOSED DISABILITIES

GOLD - NEURODIVERGENCE

RED - PHYSICAL DISABILITIES

CHARCOAL BACKGROUND - SYMBOLISES MOURNING AND RAGE FOR THE VICTIMS OF ABLEIST VIOLENCE AND ABUSE

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
