Boot on My Neck

This collage is a protest against the expectation of passive peace in the face of oppression.

Set against the bright lights of a stage, the figure turns away, refusing the performance of compliance. Their stance is quiet but unyielding, a refusal to play along with society’s demand for silence and submission.

The cut-out words resist the pressure to “be all peace, love and mungbeans” when injustice is pressing down.

It captures the tension between society’s demand for compliance and the urgent need to speak out, fight back and refuse to be silenced.
