June 18 is Autistic Pride Day! It is a day dedicated to honouring autistic identity as valid, whole and powerful. It’s a reminder that autistic people don’t need to be fixed, the world needs to get better at listening.

Autistic Pride is political. It resists narratives that reduce autistic lives to deficits or disorders. It uplifts stimming, spins, sensory joy and the full range of autistic experiences, including those who are non-speaking, multiply disabled or need high levels of support.

This day was started by autistic people, for autistic people. It’s not about awareness or acceptance, it’s about pride.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
