Pride Month is both a celebration and a reminder. Pride exists because LGBTQIA+ people have fought, and continue to fight, for the right to live openly and authentically in the face of discrimination, exclusion, and shame. The first Pride was a protest against police brutality and systemic discrimination. Trans women of colour, including Marsha P.
