Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Let’s unite in our efforts to create spaces where it’s safe and welcoming to talk about difficult emotions, including suicidal thoughts.

The data shows that a lot of people feel uncomfortable discussing these feelings with their loved ones. We have the ability to change this narrative.

By encouraging open dialogue, we are able to create environments in which people feel they are heard, and have the opportunity to express their feelings, and seek the support they require.

The act of reaching out may have a profound impact and could even help save lives. Today it is vital to remember the importance of looking out for one another.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
