Transgender Day of Remembrance – 20 November

Today we remember and honour transgender people and those whose genders exist beyond the Western binary whose lives have been lost to violence, discrimination and suicide.

We reflect on their stories, the challenges they faced, and the ongoing impact of transphobia on communities around the world.

This day invites us to stand in solidarity, to listen and to learn from the experiences of transgender people and those whose genders exist beyond the Western binary.

It is a reminder that remembering is not enough. We must work together to create more inclusive spaces where everyone can live openly, proudly and without fear.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
