January 26 is Survival Day, a day to reflect, listen, and honour the continuing culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It is a time to acknowledge survival, history, and connection to Country, and to recognise the ongoing impacts of colonisation and the strength of communities who have endured.

There are many ways to mark the day. You might read First Nations voices, attend Indigenous-led events, support community-led initiatives, or simply hold space for reflection.

You can also use the day to consider your own role in listening, learning, and supporting truth-telling and justice.

Whatever you do, centre respect, listening, and learning, and allow the day to guide reflection, understanding, and meaningful action that honours First Nations peoples and their continuing culture.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
