Transgender and non-binary youth who have their chosen pronouns honoured by those around them are 50% less likely to face the devastating darkness of suicide - The Trevor Project, a non-profit organisation dedicated to LGBTQIA+ youth suicide prevention.

This heart-wrenching finding came from an extensive national survey, illuminating the stories of nearly 34,000 courageous LGBTQIA+ people aged 13 to 24.

When they declare that “using correct pronouns is suicide prevention,” they are not just stating a fact; they are ringing the alarm bells of urgency and compassion.

This study highlights the profound impact that basic respect and affirming one’s pronouns can have on lives hanging in the balance.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
