May 17 is IDAHOBIT - International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia.

This date marks the day the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders in 1990. It’s a day to honour how far we’ve come—and to recognise how far we still have to go.

LGBTQIA+ people deserve safety, dignity, and respect—everywhere, every day.

While some wave flags, others are fighting for their lives.

While some countries legalise love, others criminalise identity.

While some celebrate pride, others mourn stolen futures.

Let’s stand up against discrimination.

Let’s speak out against silence.

Let’s celebrate diversity.

To our LGBTQIA+ communities: You are not alone. You are powerful. You are sacred.

To our LGBTQIA+ allies: Solidarity is a verb. Show up. Speak out. We need you.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
