Coming Out Day 2026!

Coming out isn’t the only story.

Some of us are called in, into friendship, love, solidarity, community and belonging.

And perhaps it’s time to move the conversation from safety to accountability.

Not just asking whether LGBTQIA+ people feel safe enough to come out, but asking what the people around us are doing to create communities where people are respected, affirmed and able to belong.

Who are you making space for?

Who are you listening to?

What are you willing to learn, change and challenge?

Coming out should never be a requirement for someone to be welcomed, respected or celebrated.

On October 11, we celebrate both coming out and calling in.

Because belonging is something we all have a part in creating.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
