To effectively understand and identify racism, Dr. Natalie Watson-Singleton, Dr. Yara Mekawi, and Danielle Dawson present a structured, linear framework known as BASICS. BASICS stands for“Background, Application, Systems of Oppression, Individual Racism, Cultural Racism and Systemic Racism”. This framework is designed to help you analyse the various factors that contribute to the existence and perpetuation of racism in a given context.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land where I live and work, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I acknowledge that this land was never ceded and always was, always will be Aboriginal land. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

I celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, age groups, spiritual beliefs, physical abilities and disabilities.
